hello again.

I am proposing hello again., an exhibition containing letters and paintings. It is largely about remembering with people I have loved, intimately or no, but mostly yes. Maybe it’s just about mortality and not forgetting who I might have been at a certain point in time. It’s also about perspective, intimacy and friendship. The double-sided watercolor paintings resemble envelopes or stationery on one side and handwritten letters on the flip side. The paintings are interactive; some hanging from the ceiling and rotating on motors, others with a flap to lift.* Additionally, some may be framed and their written contents inaccessible.

Below is the postcard I am sending out to people from my past – and a few from my present. I call this the invitation to correspond. I will write back to every person who responds with a handwritten letter and a copy of the painting I made while thinking of them. When I receive a response, it is important to note, that I will not read it before writing my own letter. This way, the contents of their letter does not have an effect on mine. Furthermore, this will ensure an amount of vulnerability and honesty within my own correspondence.

There could also be a short book released with the exhibition containing a selection of the correspondences.

*If the work suffers some wear during the exhibition, this would be seen by me as a positive aspect, adding to idea of the passing of time.
