Born Again 2009
In this piece, Florentine artist Sandro Botticelli's Venus is reborn (again and again) as video. As shot with an all-female cast in the dangerous waters of the Bermuda Triangle, it refers threefold: to the mythological creatures- the female sirens; to the spiritual rebirth that can occur for a human soul in Christianity; and to the third wave of feminism. As shown, looped on a 2004 clamshell-shaped Apple laptop, the video is anchored in time-specific technology. The music is a collaboration between myself and Max Katz (flutist).
